Ice cream, coffee & a dab... yummy!

Let’s be honest, there’s always going to be a hazy cloud of mystery surrounding the origins of “Stoner Holidaze”. Regardless, each year, more and more mainstream media outlets treat their readers to a half-assed article explaining why April 20th is a thing.

Expect the same to happen within the next few years regarding July 10th, also known as “Dab Day”. Dab Day celebrates the art of dabbing, which represents the concentrate side of weed smoking. Concentrates are an umbrella term consisting of byproducts of a vast array of extraction processes. Kief and hash are both terms most casual smokers are familiar with. After that, oil, wax and shatter are the three most popular forms of concentrate available on the legal market today.

Why July 10th?

Like May the Fourth, 7/10 is a holiday because it just so happens there’s a date that matches the name. The date itself has no historic significance. We will never know where the first use of 710 came from, but at least the connection to July 10th is easy enough, just stand on your head and read “710”. Of course oil is just one of the many types of concentrates used for dabbing, but it’s the one with the catchy name that matches a date, so there you go.

With the legalization of recreational cannabis is Washington and Colorado, standards have been implemented to ensure that the production of oil, wax and shatter concentrates meet certain basic standards. One of the most important of these was the outlawing of the use of butane in the creation of concentrates. There are plenty of ways to get the good stuff out cannabis, the most notable being CBD.

           From MarijuanaDoctors.com:

“According to an article in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, CBD offers a variety of medicinal benefits. In addition to suppressing seizure/severe muscle spasm activity, CBD also helps reduce nausea and vomiting, relieves systemic inflammation and may exert antioxidant/anti-tumor properties.

“Currently, 16 states allow certified medical marijuana doctors to write cannabis recommendations for children with chronic disorders that do not respond to traditional medications. Since CBD is virtually non-psychoactive, medical marijuana given to children with epilepsy, seizures, cancer, multiple sclerosis and Tourette's syndrome provides appropriate amounts of CBD to treat their symptoms.”

At this point, every state in the US has legalized the medicinal use of CBD in some form or another. So whether you smoke dabs or not, or even smoke weed or not, 7/10 can stand as a symbol for the acceptance of CBD and medical marijuana as a whole.

It is no surprise that with the increased popularity of dabbing, the glass-making community has risen to the occasion to create more efficient and elaborate dab rigs. These days it is not uncommon to find 6” tall dab rigs going for over $500 a piece. Of course there are still companies that cater to buyers on a budget looking for pipes in the $20-120 range.
