Strain Review : Durban Poison

Type: Sativa

THC Level: Medium

Good For: Creativity, Relief from Anxiety, Stress, Pain, Nausea, & some symptoms of Depression. Durban Poison has been showing up on the local scene quite recently, a lower priced Sativa that has taken its place among my own top shelf favorites. This is an older strain, originally hailing from Durban, the largest city in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal. I first heard about it in the 1990s in a British marijuana culture magazine, so when I first saw it on the boards about a month ago, I had to try it. The spongy, light green buds are covered in tiny white hairs, (or trichomes), with orange pistils and have a light, citrus bouquet with hints of mint. The flavor is much the same; not too complex or heavy, very reminiscent of lemon grass or some inedible varieties of sage. Durban Poison almost looks like "stress" because it is not as dense as other strains, (without the seeds, of course). This also causes it to clump up in a grinder, inevitably leading to joints that keeps going out. My advice? Go bowling. Durban Poison offers a very clean, cerebral sensation; Anxiety & stress part like clouds and your mind feels clearer. I'm not saying it will boost your creativity, but it can definitely help people with roadblocks standing in the way of their creativity. It is for this very reason that this strain is ideal for treating some of the symptoms of depression like fatigue, loss of appetite, lethargy and attention deficit. It just goes to show that you cannot judge a strain by its THC content. Durban Poison has all the elements of a a great Sativa; a refreshing head-high that sustains positivity and doesn't put you to sleep. If you're looking for something to help "even you out", you should give it a try.

Thorough Review

This was a very thorough review and an enjoyable read. Thank you.

I would like to add that Durban Poison has been known to exhibit a taste akin to black licorice or anise. This unique flavor profile likely comes from its African landrace ancestors. Though the THC level is "only" a medium, it does give a very unique and pleasant high. This leads me to believe that there are potentially other cannabinoids at play, besides the wonderful THC. Finally, growers be aware that this sativa can grow quite tall!

I recently grew a great strain of Durban I named it DP squared which stands for (Durban Poison Death Punch). This strain is very pungent and gorgeous to look at.
