BENEFITS OF DIGESTING MARIJUANA OVER SMOKING IT

By Comfortably Numb

There are many benefits to ingesting marijuana as opposed to smoking it.

Due to many health conditions, such as lung issues, asthma, upper and respiratory issues, some patients cannot reap the benefits of medical marijuana by smoking it.  There are also those patients that want the medical benefits of marijuana, but choose not to smoke it.  For these people the obvious choice would be to find an alternative to smoking.

One important benefit of ingesting marijuana is that you can bypass any chemicals that might enter the respiratory system.  Ingesting marijuana, rather than smoking it, will not cause any potential harm to one's lungs.   While the digestive tract is slow to absorb the molecules released during digestion, the bloodstream quickly filters out THC when it is introduced through the lungs and pumped throughout the body.

Since food infused with marijuana needs to be digested before the THC is released into the bloodstream, the effects may take as long as two hours to take into action.  Although this might seem like a disadvantage, the effects associated with ingesting it tends to be a more calming effect.

Ingesting marijuana also leads to a markedly different experience from smoking.   Eating marijuana-infused edibles usually leads to a longer, stronger, and much more physical effect than smoking. Although eating is a perfectly viable way of absorbing marijuana into the bloodstream, more amounts of marijuana must be used in a cooking preparation in order to make the THC effect most active.

There are many good reasons to cook with marijuana, including the safety of smoking on one's lungs and the difference in the high.

One reason people cook with marijuana is the ease with which it is consumed.  Eating edible marijuana provides a sense of privacy that might not be attainable when smoking it.   Most food cooked properly with marijuana will not give the untrained eye any indication that it contains marijuana.

Ingesting medical marijuana makes the use of marijuana around others far more discreet without intrusive smoke or tell-tale aroma.

Edibles are definitely easier on the lungs. Personally, I like the lag-time between consuming an edible and experiencing the effects. One can eat a cookie and then go about their day, suddenly they are feeling great.

I like to eat some weed then smoke some. It's a match made in heaven. Happy Valentine's day ;) JJ
